January 10, 2006It just took one phone call and a visit from a SEC coaching staff for Martavius Adams to become a committed man.
The 6-foot-8, 235-pound big man from Baldwin High School in Milledgeville, Ga., told Dennis Felton that he was ready to be a Georgia Bulldog on Tuesday afternoon during practice. He becomes the second in-state player to pledge to the SEC school in the Class of 2007, joining Jeremy Price of Atlanta.
"They called me at practice and coach Felton offered me a scholarship and I was like, 'alright,'" Adams said.
Felton and UGA assistant Desmond Oliver traveled to Milledgeville last Saturday and watched the three star prospect pull off a huge upset over Wilkinson Co. Adams was instrumental in the victory with 15 points, including the bucket that gave his team the lead under a minute to play.
Adams told Rivals.com after the win that Georgia would be the team to beat for his services if the Dawgs offered a scholarship. Two days later the offer came and Adams jumped at the opportunity.
"I think they liked what they saw (over the weekend)," Adams said. "I've always liked the way they play and I've just been a fan of Georgia."
Georgia has a giant frontline coming to Athens in 2007 with Adams and Price. Together the duo combines for nearly 500 pounds on the blocks but both players are agile and nimble despite their beefy frames. Adams might just have the best set of hands in the entire state.
Adams also considered Clemson, Florida State and Miami.
