August 11, 2005StudentSportsFootball.com is proud to present the EA SPORTS Elite 11 Quarterback Top 100, a list of the nation's top 100 quarterbacks after camp and film evaluation. The list is a comprehensive and constantly changing list from the producers of the NIKE Camps and EA SPORTS Elite 11 QB Workouts and will also cover any quarterback recruiting news of the week.
Also coming in the fall is the EA SPORTS Elite 11 Quarterback Tracker, which will follow the senior seasons of the 12 EA SPORTS Elite 11 quarterbacks game-by-game.
Three quarterbacks made verbal commitments this week, perhaps the most notable being Hilmar (Calif.) signal caller Nathan Costa, who chose the Oregon Ducks over Utah and Boise State.
Costa, a 6-0, 191 pounder, completed 159 of 255 passes for 2,249 yards with 24 TDs and just six interceptions as a junior, also rushing for 622 yards and six scores and plays in a spread offense in high school similar to what Oregon will be featuring with new offensive coordinator Gary Crowton.
The Ducks offered Costa last week after Cody Hawkins, who Oregon also had an offer out to, chose Boise State, and Costa committed on the spot.
"The facilities stand out," Costa told Duck Sports Authority. "They are probably the best in the country. They are just amazing. Everything they have over there is just crazy."
As mentioned, Boise State recently landed EA SPORTS Elite 11 QB Cody Hawkins, but the Broncos didn't stop there, also adding 6-4, 201 pound Mike Coughlin out of San Diego (Calif.) Mira Mesa this week.
Coughlin, a big, strong-armed passer with a lot of upside, also had an offer from UTEP and had a solid junior season at Mira Mesa, throwing for 1,760 yards and 14 scores while also rushing for 11 TDs.
Like Costa, Coughlin was just offered on Saturday morning last weekend and didn't take long to jump on the Boise State bandwagon.
"I just got an offer from Boise State
yesterday morning," Coughlin told Rivals100.com
on Sunday. "I called coach (Dan) Hawkins and told him that I was committing. He
was very excited about it.
Also committing this week was athletic 6-2, 210 pound L.J. Castile out of La Marque (Texas).
"I'm committing to Houston," Castile told Rivals100.com Tuesday morning.
"What really impressed me were the coaches
and the shotgun offense," Castile said. "I look forward to doing the run-and-gun
offense for the next four years.
Castile had a solid junior season, passing for 1,200 yards and 16 scores, while also rushing for five TDs and recorded a 56.76 SPARQ Rating while clocking a 4.75 40 at the NIKE Camp in Fort Worth.
Student Sports had a conversation with EA SPORTS Elite 11 QB Tim Tebow earlier this week, catching up with the 6-3, 217 pound lefty as he and his Jacksonville (Fla.) Nease teammates prepare for an August 27th showdown on ESPN with FAB 50 No. 3 ranked Hoover (Ala.).
Tebow is still taking recruiting as it comes, but the plans for the fall are beginning to take shape as he said that Florida, Michigan and USC will likely get official visits and he also plans on taking unofficials to check out games at FSU, Florida and perhaps a few other schools in the South.
Below is the sixth EA SPORTS Elite 11 Quarterback Tracker Top 100, which lists the nation's top 100 quarterbacks after tape and in-person evaluation. This list is subject to change and will be updated weekly throughout the summer and fall.
