January 19, 2005Nashville (Tenn.) Goodpasture wide receiver Patrick Turner was all set to commit this past Saturday at the U.S. Army All-American game. He had a sudden change of plans and did not make his announcement, however, today he pulled the trigger and announced his destination.
"It's Southern Cal, my phone keeps ringing and ringing," Goodpasture coach David Martin said. "He decided to make the decision today, he's really happy with Southern Cal."
The 6-foot-5, 210-pound Turner runs the 40-yard dash in 4.55 seconds and is ranked as the No. 1 wide receiver in the country by Rivals.com.
"He has not had his in-home visit with Pete Carroll yet," Martin said. "Coach Carroll is due in Nashville on Wednesday to solidify the process and have a good time with Patrick and his family."
"Patrick will be unavailable for comment tonight, don't expect Patrick to answer the phone. He's done with recruiting."
Turner chose the Trojans over the Tennessee Volunteers, who had a meeting with Turner earlier today at his home.
Turner spoke at length about what he liked about the Trojans last week in San Antonio. He was comparing USC and Tennessee and had this to say about the Trojans.
"Just look at USC and what they have done the past two years," Turner said. "They have a chance to three peat which is something that no team in the history of college football has ever done. Coach Carroll is such a down to earth guy and his team reflects his personality, which shows how much those guys respect him.
"One thing that stands out about them is that they aren't scared to throw to a freshman at all. Two years ago it was ,Mike Williams and Kerry Colbert, then this year it was Dwayne Jarrett and Steve Smith and next year it could be Patrick Turner and DeSean Jackson."
