Following each game CougarsDen.com will recognize the standout performers by handing out our game balls. Here are the game balls from Houston's 44-41 loss to Marshall on Saturday.
Crawford Jones: The senior gunslinger was admirable in his first start of 2012 and kept Houston alive in the second half putting them in position to have a chance to win the game. Jones finished with 316 yards passing and five touchdowns in the losing effort.
Xavier Maxwell: The former JUCO standout had his best game thus far as a Cougar catching two passes both of which were touchdowns of four and 58 yards, both of which would wind up being huge in keeping Houston in the game.
Deontay Greenberry: Houston's prized four-star recruit had arguably his best game of the season for Houston as well. Greenberry had a team-high six receptions for 60 yards and a touchdown and continues his improvement over the course of the season.
Phillip Steward: The senior linebacker was sideline to sideline again for Houston this week and had a team-high 16 tackles, two tackles-for-loss, one sack and quarterback hurry. Steward has been a consistent anchor to Houston's defense and again was a big contributor for Houston on Saturday.
Everett Daniels: The senior linebacker had another strong game for the Cougars finishing with 13 tackles, two tackles-for-loss and two key sacks in the losing effort.
Matt Hogan: The senior placekicker was perfect on the day going two-for-two on field goal attempts including a huge 28-yard field goal late in the fourth which tied the game and giving the Cougars a chance late in the game. Hogan was also five-for-five on PAT attempts.
