Syracuse has been after Tyler Roberson for a long time now and tonight was the night he made his college choice official.
"I will be going to the University of Syracuse," Roberson told ESPNU this evening.
"They are going into the ACC next year and that is a really good conference. Coach [Jim] Boeheim is one of the best in college basketball and they are just a very good college team.
During the recruiting season, Roberson was looking for a school that fit him and one that was close to home. Syracuse met that requirement a long time ago.
"Syracuse, I think I fit the way they play a lot. They aren't too far away from home for me and they are also a good program to play for," Roberson told Rivals.com in October.
One other factor that went into his recruitment was the relationship he built with Orange assistant coach Mike Hopkins.
"Coach Hopkins is my main recruiter. We have a real good relationship we have known each other for a long time. The relationship I have with him is one of the longest I have head with any coach in the process, so it has been good. Every time I talk with him it could be about basketball or other things, we can just talk about anything."
When he steps on the court for Syracuse, the Orange will probably start him out at the three, but he is versatile enough to play a couple more spots.
"Coach Hopkins told me that I would play on the wing. He wants me to come in and play on the wing. I could play a bigger two guard, but right now I play the three and the four. I think they really want me just at the three spot," Roberson stated. "I think I would be a player similar to C.J. Fair and he has been doing well. I think if I was to go there I would play like him."
Now with Roberson in the fold, Syracuse could move up the Rivals.com team rankings, according to National recruiting analyst Eric Bossi.
"If he picked the Orange, they would move into at least the national top 15 of the team rankings," Bossi said.
Roberson joins a Syracuse class that has Tyler Ennis, B.J. Johnson, Ron Patterson, and Chinonso Obokoh.
