Vic Schaefer's squad enters the contest looking to build on a hard-fought 72-66 win against Houston in Friday's season opener.
Sophomores Martha Alwal and Kendra Grant both had career nights on offense to spark MSU to a 1-0 start to the campaign.
Alwal led all scorers with a personal-best 23 points, going 7 for 17 from the field and a career-high 9 of 10 from the free-throw line.
The Worthington, Minn., native tallied the fourth double-double of her career as she pulled down 18 rebounds, including 11 on the offensive glass.
Alwal made her presence in the paint known, registering half of Mississippi State's eight blocks while altering several more. Now with 86 blocks in her young career, she is tied with former All-SEC standout Sharon Thompson for fourth in school history.
Alwal recorded 15 points and 10 rebounds to give State a four-point halftime lead, and Grant helped MSU maintain the advantage as she scored 17 of her personal-best 22 points in the second half. Friday's effort eclipsed her previous best of 17 set last season against Tennessee.
The Richland, Miss., product went 8 for 18 from the field and 5 of 8 from the line, and she came one rebound shy of claiming her first double-double.
After out-rebounding Houston by 26, 65-39, on Friday, the Bulldogs will need another solid effort against a Hampton squad that grabbed 52 boards in a 78-41 season-opening win at Humphrey Coliseum.
The Lady Pirates, the defending MEAC champion, got double-double performances from Keiara Avant and Verdine Warner. Avant tallied 26 points and 13 rebounds, while Warner grabbed 18 boards to go along with 17 points.
Hampton also received 17 points from guard Nicole Hamilton.
