REFORM, Ala., - When Friday night's contest began Pickens County head coach Patrick Plott had his headset dialed in to the coaching box upstairs and had his offensive game plan laminated and dangling from around his neck by a lanyard.

By the time the second half started the headset was gone and the playsheet was only as an accessory on Plott. With his team up 54-7 already at halftime there simply would not be a need for those items.

Plott and the Tornadoes finished off South Lamar 75-7 and emptied the benches for the entire second half.

"We came out and jumped on them early and put them out of the game," Plott said. "We took care of our business early. Every time we get a chance to get those (younger) guys a chance to get reps it means a lot to this program as a whole."

Pickens County is out of the gate with a 2-0 start and started hot Friday night scoring 28 points in the opening quarter. The Tornadoes amassed 398 yards on offense and also added two special teams touchdowns as well.

Junior quarterback Devonte Simon accounted for four of Pickens County's scores in three different ways, all in the first half. Simon completed 4-of-7 passing for 93 yards and two touchdowns and also rushed for a 21-yard score on his only carry. He also added an 81-yard punt return for a score as well.

It was Simon's two touchdown tosses on the first two possessions of the game that got the Tornadoes rolling. Simon connected with Laron Thomas from 38-yards out for the first score then hit Deonte' Simon on a 30-yard scoring strike.

"(South Lamar) was in a zone and my receivers did a good job of looking in the windows," Simon said. "I just did my best to get them the ball."

From the third quarter on it was the Pickens County reserves who received all of the work. Freshman quarterback Christopher Perkins took advantage of the opportunity rushing three times for 84 yards and a touchdown while completing both of his passes for 72 yards and another score.

In all, nine different players scored touchdowns for the Tornadoes.

"Those guys work just as hard as the starters do," Plott said. "Sometimes they work even harder in practice because we make them push those starters. When it comes time for the game they are ready to score just as well."

South Lamar scored their lone touchdown on the year when Judson Mitchell returned a 81-yard kickoff for a score early in the second quarter. The Stallions were limited to 129 total yards on the evening and fell to 0-2 on the year.
