Miles, Parmalee have different roles
Tre Parmalee and Schyler Miles start their visit this afternoon they will be in different roles. When
Parmalee, who won the Otis Taylor Award as the best wide receiver in Kansas City, already knows his college future. In December he committed to the Jayhawks after Charlie Weis took over. Parmalee was one of the first known offers Weis extended.
This weekend Parmalee will take his official visit to Kansas. His mother Angel, and father, Bernie will also be on the visit. Bernie coached on Weis staff at Notre Dame and again with the Kansas City Chiefs.
"I'm looking forward to having a good time and seeing some of the players," Parmalee said. "I want to meet some of the recruits and get a better feel for the program."
Miles on the other hand is trying to sift through the recruiting process. He has taken visits to Florida and West Virginia. Now it is the Jayhawks turn.
"I want to get on campus and see more about the program," Miles said. "I want to meet some of the players and see what kind of chemistry I have with the defensive coordinator."
That defensive coordinator is Dave Campo, the former head coach of the Dallas Cowboys. Campo also served as the defensive coordinator of the Cowboys. He has 18 years of college coaching experience and 23 at the NFL level.
"I think it is a great hire anytime you can get coaches that have that kind of NFL experience," Miles said. "I really like the hire. I think he (Campo) will do great things there."
There has been speculation about Parmalee moving to the defensive side of the ball. Parmalee confirmed that no decision has been made yet, but he agrees with Mile's assessment of Campo.
"It is definitely a great hire," Parmalee said. "He has a good resume and has been with Miami and Dallas under Jimmy Johnson."
One reason the Jayhawks are in the picture is the relationship Weis built with him at Florida. The fact he is still visiting Lawrence shows what he thinks of Weis. There are several good schools recruiting him.
This weekend there is a good chance Parmalee and Miles have a conversation.
"Yeah I will help recruit anybody I can," Parmalee said. "We need as many good players as we can get. We need to get things going."
