One of South Carolina's biggest remaining targets on the defensive side of the ball was in Columbia on Thursday again.
College Park (Ga.) Banneker four-star defensive back Chaz Elder made the trip to South Carolina's campus in the morning and spent several hours at the school.
"We went to camp and hung out with the coaches," Elder told GamecockCentral.com. "I got a chance to talk to (Steve) Spurrier and the rest of the coaching staff, so that was good."
What was the Head Ball Coach's message to the 6-foot-2, 180-pound defender?
"He was telling me about the academic achievements at the school, and how bad they want me. That's pretty much it."
For Carolina, defensive coordinator/cornerbacks coach Lorenzo Ward has handled Elder's recruitment throughout the process and Ward spent more time making his pitch.
"I mean, besides him saying he really wanted me and his jokes, we were just catching up with stuff mostly," Elder said of the pair's conversations.
While the Peach State product is unsure as to whether or not he will ultimately take any more visits, he does still plan a decision in the month of August. Out of his finalists (Georgia, South Carolina, and Vanderbilt), who is currently on top?
"Right now, I'm really liking South Carolina," he said. "I just really enjoyed being there today."
Elder went into more detail about why Columbia could be his next destination.
"For one, I get to play corner so I really like that. Two, me and Coach Ward if I did decide to go there, we have a good relationship. Spurrier, I think he will be there a while. Their program is on the rise, that's pretty much it."
