June 23, 2011After totaling 32 tackles and five interceptions last fall, Hoover, Ala., native and 2012 cornerback prospect Chris Humes wasn't able to experience spring drills. A minor knee injury kept the 6-foot-1 and 195-pound out of spring work but he has since fully recovered.
"It was tough sitting out," said Hughes. "I had a dislocated knee but everything is fine now. It feels great and I am even more anxious to start playing again."
Despite missing spring ball, it didn't keep college recruiters away from the Spain Park High School defensive back. Humes currently owns offers from Auburn, Mississippi State, Kentucky, Southern Miss, Cincinnati, Louisville, UAB and South Alabama.
Earlier this month, Humes had the chance to unofficially visit Mississippi State along with his familt.
"It was great at Mississippi State and I plan to see as much as I can of SEC schools this summer," said Humes. "I like how Mississippi State is progressing on last year's good season and how hard they work. Their coaches said they wanted me back later this summer and then also in the fall for some of their games. I thought their campus looked really good and they also have great facilities. And my family also liked their campus, too."
Being recruited as a cornerback by the SEC schools, Humes noted he didn't have a current leader.
"There really isn't one school sticking out so far," said Humes. "I would say it's between Mississippi State and Alabama as far as who is recruiting me the hardest. Alabama has not offered yet but they are very interested in me as a cornerback."
Humes also added that making his college decision may not occur any time soon. And before that time does come, he will make sure he finds the right fit and receives good advice from his family.
"It will just be wherever me and my family decide is the right time," said Hughes. "I am looking for a winning program, stability in a program and just a good fit for me. I am looking to see where I fit in best in a family-type atmosphere. Academics are also very important and I will probably major in business. So I want to find the right school that has the best program for my major."
