A.J. Jefferson made his presence felt on the gridiron. This spring, Jefferson is juggling a pair of sports and showing his versatility in track and field. With 144 tackles and 19 sacks last year, it was easy to see that North Pike junior
"We are starting up track now," said the 6-foot-3 and 220-pound Jefferson. "I know I am going to throw the discus and also run on the 4 x 400 relay team. It's going good so far and we also have some guys a little hurt. So I might have to run more sprint events and run in the 200 meters and that would be good, too.
"With track being after school, I go over to the weight room and lift weights and work on football when I have the opportunity. I am mainly working on my pass rush moves and working to improve my hands."
With his recruitment, Jefferson has also picked up a couple of offers lately with Memphis and Louisiana-Lafayette. He also owns offers from Mississippi State and Southern Miss, and plans to continue taking trips to see some of these schools.
"I have already been to junior day at Mississippi State and I just went to junior day at Southern Miss," said Jefferson. "It went good at Southern Miss and I liked it up there. I like their campus and their coaches. Their coaches seem like good guys and they are concerned about education and making me a good football player.
"I am also going to junior day at Louisiana-Lafayette this weekend and I don't know much about them yet. I am going to Mississippi State's spring game. Southern Miss and Ole Miss also want me up there to watch their spring practice and so does Memphis. I am going to try to make those trips, too, if I can."
Jefferson noted he doesn't have an early leader just yet but spoke well of both Mississippi State and Southern Miss.
"I like Mississippi State with them being in my home state," said Jefferson. "I like their coaches and they are in the SEC so that's a big plus. I just can see myself getting better if I decide to go there. Southern Miss is also a good program with good coaches, too."
