Amaro makes Rivals100 debut
Jace Amaro. On Friday, he caught two passes for 73 yards and two scores in MacArthur's district championship-clinching win over Madison. The next day, Amaro was in the stands for the Red Raiders' upset victory over No. 14 Missouri. It has been a good week for San Antonio (Texas) MacArthur tight end and Texas Tech commit
"It was a great game," Amaro said. "The atmosphere -- I've actually never been to a game where Texas Tech has lost, and I've been to about 10 games before. That's always good. That win Saturday, was a great win -- but it's just a taste of what the coaches are going to do and what these players are going to do in the future. The Texas Tech fan base just needs to get ready for that."
The good news didn't stop there, though. On Monday, Amaro was recognized as one of the top 50 players in the country. In Rivals.com's latest update to the Rivals100, the 6-foot-5, 237-pound standout is listed as the No. 48 prospect in the 2011 class regardless of position, the No. 4 tight end and the No. 6 player in Texas.
"Being No. 48, that's a great honor," Amaro said. "I worked so hard over the summer. I've been just trying to do my job, to be the best teammate and player that I can be. I'm not trying to make everything happen -- I'm just going out there and doing what I have to do to help our team win."
That Amaro is ranked so highly is a testament to his ability and determination, as his junior season ended after just four games due to a knee injury. He debuted in Rivals' 2011 rankings in June as the No. 155 overall prospect in the country and increased his stock with a strong senior campaign in which he caught 34 passes for 571 yards and six touchdowns.
Amaro committed to Tech in April over offers from Arizona, Arkansas, Baylor, Duke, Missouri, Rice, Texas A&M, Tulsa and Virginia. If National Signing Day were today, he would be the highest-ranked high school prospect to sign with the Red Raiders in over a decade.
