October 20, 2010CHAPEL HILL, N.C. --- North Carolina junior cornerback Charles Brown will miss the remainder of the 2010 season, UNC announced on Wednesday.
Brown, who has started for the Tar Heels since his freshman year of 2007, is being placed on 'academic probation' for the remainder of the 2010-2011 academic year, but will have one more season of eligibility for UNC in 2011.
"Charlie Brown found out that he's going to be put on probation for two semesters," said UNC head coach Butch Davis. "He's got one year of eligibility remaining, so he'll stay on the football team and he'll get a chance to practice and go through spring practice and use this year as a redshirt year."
UNC also released new information of fellow cornerback Kendric Burney---notably that his situation has not been fully resolved and he will not be eligible to play against Miami Saturday night.
The uncertainty with Burney lies with the academic prong of the UNC investigation and having to pick up an additional class to make up for an 'F' grade he's received as result of the cheating scandal.
Burney's remaining career at UNC appears to be in some doubt, as he's unable to add another class at this late point in the academic semester and he'll have to ask for a waiver from the NCAA to make him eligible.
