August 15, 2010BOISE, Idaho - The Boise State football team completed its first
scrimmage of fall camp, Saturday (Aug. 14) afternoon at Bronco
Stadium, in a closed practice that was highlighted by a steady passing
attack and strong run defense by the Broncos.
The Boise State defense set a physical tempo early, especially up
front in its run defense. The Bronco offense was held to 0 rushing
yards on 31 attempts, including four sacks for -31 yards. Boise
State's top rusher on the afternoon was senior Jeremy Avery, who did
tally 26 yards on six carries.
But while the Bronco offense struggled to move the ball on the ground,
their quarterback corps found much more success in the air. Junior
Kellen Moore led the way with a solid outing; completing 14-of-20
passes for 135 yards and two touchdowns. His first touchdown throw
came to senior Austin Pettis from 12 yards out. Moore later found
senior tight end Tommy Gallarda on a 19-yard score.
The Bronco offense would score its' final touchdown of the day as Joe
Southwick found Geraldo Hiwat on a 25-yard touchdown pass. Kyle Efaw
led the offense in receiving yards with 53 on three catches.
Boise State enters its final week of fall camp, which will be capped
with the Broncos final scrimmage of the fall next Saturday (Aug. 21).
The scrimmage, which will also be held in Bronco Stadium, will start
at 7:30 p.m. and is open to the public.
