June 22, 2010Auburn hosted a trio of unofficial visitors from Florida last Monday, one being three-star Jacksonville (Fla.) Trinity Christian athlete Ahmad Christian.
Christian was making his first trip to Auburn, and the Tigers seemed to have made a big impression.
"We just took a tour around the campus and got to meet the coaches," Christian said. "I went with Andrew Buie and A.C. Leonard. Buie is a teammate, and Leonard is just a good friend."
Christian said they got down there Sunday night, and then toured Auburn on Monday, seeing what the program had to offer for the first time.
"We met some of the coaches, we went around the campus and saw the stadium," Christian said. "I went in open minded, just expecting a college atompshere. It was a nice place with nice facilities.
"I like Auburn a lot. I don't have any favorites, I'm going to stay open minded, but Auburn is one of the schools I like a lot."
Auburn is recruiting Christian as a defensive back, and also punt and kick returner as well.
Christian is not only a standout football player, but plays baseball as well. He had just returned from a baseball tournament before his trip to Auburn, and has another tournament coming up.
Christian is likely to get drafted in next year's Major League draft, but will still sign with a team in February, and then make his decision on football or baseball after the MLB draft.
He may not be ready to give up football yet.
"I'm not sure yet, but I just know I don't want to stop playing yet," Christian said. "I love it so much, but I'll have to make a decision after signing day.
"Auburn, Vanderbilt, Tennessee, South Carolina, and USF want me to play both."
Christian was accompanied on his trip by teammate Andrew Buie, as well as his friend and Florida commitment, A.C. Leonard. Christian said Leonard enjoyed his visit and is just seeing what else is out there, but remains committed to the Gators.
"He's still committed to Florida, but he just went on the trip to see what other schools have to offer," Christian said. "He's never been to other schools, but he's still committed to Florida."
Christian did say it would be nice to play with Buie at the next level, but they are certainly not locked into that, and will try and make their own decisions.
"We're just doing our own thing, but we're helping each other out in the process," Christian said. "We give each other ideas, and see what we think about certain coaches and schools."
Christian says he will most likely be back in the fall for an official visit.
