June 12, 2010Offensive lineman Patrick Jamison and defensive tackle Zeb Togiai have left the Arizona State football team.
Jamison, a 6-foot-3, 280-pounder, signed with the Sun Devils out of Hamilton High School in the 2008 class. He redshirted as a true freshman before playing in eight games as a reserve in 2009, primarily at right tackle.
This spring, Jamison worked with the second-team at right tackle, a spot he could have potentially held onto in the fall with the anticipated move of Matt Hustad from right tackle to left guard. It's unclear if Jamison's departure will lead ASU coaches to reconsider moving Hustad.
ASU's top two offensive tackles on the depth chart coming out of the spring were redshirt freshman Evan Finkenberg and junior transfer Brice Schwab.
Sophomore Kyle Johnson is capable of backing up both spots and junior college transfer Aderious Simmons arrives this summer.
Other returning options at tackle include sophomore walk-on Nick Emanuele and junior tight end convert Dan Knapp.
Togiai, a 6-foot-2, 293-pounder out of Desert Vista High School, also signed with ASU in 2008 and redshirted that year. He did not see the field last season and wasn't expected to find his way onto the depth chart in the coming year, with senior Saia Falahola, juniors Lawrence Guy and Bo Moos, and sophomores William Sutton, Corey Adams and Toa Tuitea among those ahead of him.
Togiai may end up at Glendale Community College.
