May 8, 2010MORE: Sabes Invitational Friday night rundown
ATLANTA- The Wallace Prather Memorial Event got underway Friday night, and the most intriguing recruiting news so far from the event centers around five-star shooting guard Damien Leonard.
After scoring 19 points in a win for Team Power, Leonard told Rivals.com that Arizona is the latest school to enter his recruitment. The Wildcats have offered Leonard, and the interest is mutual. Leonard will visit Arizona next weekend.
Leonard, as usual, did most of his damage Friday night from behind the arc.
D'Angelo Harrison (2011 Franchize All Stars)- Perhaps no player in the class has done more to raise his stock this spring than Harrison. After tearing it up at the Real Deal in the Rock last month, Harrison's recruitment took off. The shooting guard now has offers from Arizona State, Arkansas, Oklahoma State, SMU and UTEP. Memphis is also showing interest.
Oddly enough, Harrison's top three schools of Texas A&M, Kansas State and Houston have not offered.
In a variety of ways, Harrison scored 32 points in his team's win. He drained three-pointers, scored off the dribble and repeatedly got to the free throw line. Solid and composed with the basketball, Harrison has a crafty pace to his game as a scorer.
Herdie Lawrence (2011 Atlanta Elite)- This undersized shooting guard kept his team in the game against the Franchize All Stars with an impressive 34 point effort. His performance created the biggest buzz in the Georgia Tech Rec Center.
His quick release jumper was automatic from three, and he also did damage in the midrange off a quick pull up. Friday night Lawrence played like a prospect who could put up big scoring numbers on a lower Division I level.
Adam Smith (2011 Georgia Impact)- One of the best shooters and scorers in Georgia during the high school season, Smith was impressive Friday night with a 24 point effort. He is quick and dangerous going right, and his jumper looked automatic off the catch and the dribble.
He has a Murray State offer and interest from Mississippi State, Alabama and Auburn. Smith, however, would love to hear from Louisville.
