October 29, 2009 STARKVILLE, Miss. - The Mississippi State Women's Basketball team was picked to finish third in the Southeastern Conference this season by a vote of the league coaches announced Thursday by the SEC office. The Lady Bulldogs received 100 points to finish behind Tennessee and LSU.Tennessee received 112 points as the preseason favorite to win the league title while LSU received 111 points. Georgia was picked fourth followed by Vanderbilt and South Carolina . Florida was picked seventh, Auburn eighth and Arkansas ninth. Ole Miss, Kentucky and Alabama rounded out the league voting. Mississippi State senior guard Alexis Rack was selected to the eight-member All-SEC first team. Rack was selected to the All-SEC first team last season and is currently State's 10th leading career scorer with 1179 points. Rack is also MSU's all time career leader in three-point field goals made and attempted. Armelie Lumanu and Chanel Mokango were named to the All-SEC Second Team. Both members of last season's All-SEC Defensive Team, the duo returns for their senior seasons. As a junior last season, Lumanu led the Lady Bulldogs in steals (70), was second on the team with 142 assists and was the team's second leading scorer, averaging 10.7 points a game. Mokango set a school single-season block record with 97 which ranked ninth nationally a year ago. Mokango also averaged 10.5 points a contest which ranked third on the team. The Lady Bulldogs open exhibition play against Monticello on Sunday, Nov. 8 at 2 p.m. while the first regular season game comes Nov. 13 at 5 p.m. against Arkansas-Pine Bluff. |
