Tulsa defense stepping up
The Tulsa Golden Hurricane defense has stepped up in its first two games of the year, dominating opposing offenses. Against Tulane, Tulsa had as many tackles for loss (13) as Tulane had points. Against New Mexico, TU allowed only six first downs and caused three turnovers, but Todd Graham says the team isn't relying solely on its defense.
"I don't know that the defense is carrying us," said the Golden Hurricane head coach. "We scored 44 and 37. I think it is different (from last season). When you don't have a defense, when you are giving up a lot of points and score a lot of points, it is a tradeoff.
"If we want to win a championship, we have to play championship defense. I like how the defense is playing, and our game is changing. It is a good sign."
