Future Impact: Trajuan Briggs
As running backs like Stafon Johnson and Joe McKnight prepare to leave for the next level, the USC stable of tailbacks waits among the high school ranks.
Thus far, the Trojans have commitments from running backs Dillon Baxter, D.J. Morgan and Trajuan Briggs. In this edition of Future Impact, we take a closer look at USC's latest pledge.
Briggs, 5-foot-11, 198-pounds, first hit the recruiting radar as a sophomore at UCLA's one day camp. Showing excellent feet in ladder drills, his muscular frame and burst was easy to spot. But Briggs was a work in progress, and although he ran for 1,500 yards and 21 rushing touchdown last season, still is.
Averaging 8.75 yards per carry in 2008, it's hard to critique Briggs as a runner without noting his improvement and potential. Film from early in his junior year shows a runner with an aggressive gait, but inconsistent when forced to break tackles off the edge of the defense or in the open field.
While Briggs isn't the terror in space Baxter is, he skills as a tailback continue to develop.
