Texas Tech was already in dire need of defensive ends in its 2009 class, as they were scheduled to graduate five senior ends off next year's team. However, with Brandon Williams' decision to enter the NFL draft a year early, finding another defensive lineman or two has become even more important for Tech.
One of the their top targets, Louisiana native Bennie Logan, is quickly becoming one of the fastest rising prospects in the country.
"Well, it's been good, but it's been getting really crazy lately," said Logan of his recruitment. "It's just gotten so hectic. I've got offers now from Nebraska, Texas Tech, Michigan, Southern Miss, Mississippi State, LSU, Louisiana Tech, Northwestern, and a few others as well."
Though he doesn't have any favorites at this point, his most recent visit is still very fresh on his mind.
"I'm not trying to name any favorites right now, you know what I'm saying," he explained. "I'm trying to make sure I find the best place for me. I just got back from Michigan, and that place was alright, you know. They were telling me that if I went there I'd actually have a pretty good chance to get seen and get noticed by NFL scouts, which is a unique opportunity. It seemed like a good place, so if I had to choose, I might just choose them, but who knows."
As for this coming weekend, Logan is still hadn't set his official travel plans when we last spoke with him.
"I'm supposed to visit Southern Miss this weekend," he said. "But then some coach from LSU just called me out of nowhere while I was in Michigan and told me they were coming to visit me on Thursday and wanted me to visit them on Friday. I don't know what's going on there, but I'm not really trying to mess with all that, because I don't know what their deal is.
"We'll see. As far as I know, I'm not planning on changing my plans. I don't know how I'd feel about them just coming in at the last minute and trying to change things up so fast. Like I said, we'll see."
However, regardless of what happens this weekend, he does have one visit set for sure.
"I know for sure I'm going to Texas Tech out in Lubbock on the last weekend you can visit schools," he said. "That's an important visit to me, so I'm going to make sure I get out there and see what they're about."
The playmaking end, who registered 115 tackles, including 30 that went for a loss, along with 10 sacks en route to 1st team All-State honors, says he "absolutely" will not make a decision until he has made his last two visits.
