Spring Spotlight - Jeffrey Whitaker
We hit the road daily starting in mid April through late May tracking down some of the top prospects in the country. We watched many talented athletes go through spring practice to get a better evaluation of their talent. Inside the Spring Spotlight feature you will see exclusive video, photos, player analysis, and more on the talent we see. The prospect in the spotlight this time is Jeffrey Whitaker.
Prospect: Jeffrey Whitaker
High School: Warner Robins - Warner Robins, Georgia
Position: Defensive Lineman
Vitals: 6-3, 295-pounds
Favorites: Clemson and Georgia are on top, but he has early interest in FSU, Florida, and others.
Colleges in Attendance: Memphis and North Carolina
Practice Observations: Whitaker's name hit the scene last year after about two games and there has been a buzz about him every since. He is a monster on the inside that is getting better and better. Improvement was shown this spring and a few of things jumped out during this session.
He showed much better lateral movement, he was better in technique, and he played with a lot more power. Whitaker was pretty much unblockable and they had to sit him down so the OL would have a chance during the inside drills. He showed nice punch also and he will be more of a playmaker in 2008 than a space eater like he was in 2007. He still needs to work on his quickness, his explosion off the ball, and conditioning, but he has the tools to be one of the most sought after interior defensive linemen not only in the South, but possibly the country next year.
