Four-star tackle Mattes shuffles visit schedule
Concord (N.C.) Robinson offensive tackle R.J. Mattes (6-foot-7, 283 pounds, 5.1 seconds) continues to be one of the most-sought after recruits as Virginia brings its 2008 recruiting class to a close.
Over the weekend, the four-star tackle took an official visit to NC State and left Raleigh impressed.
"The visit to NC State really surprised me," said Mattes. "It was a really good time. I was looking to enjoy myself and to get to know what the team and coaches were about, and I felt like I accomplished that."
Mattes has set a new official visit date and moved another.
"I was already planning to make a visit to Virginia on November 24 for the Virginia Tech game but I was up in the air about whether it was going to be an official visit or not. I spoke to Mike Groh and we have made it an official visit.
"I am still visiting North Carolina on December 1 for an official visit but because of the Shrine Bowl, I am going to have to move my South Carolina visit later. I will probably visit South Carolina and Clemson in January."
Could Mattes decide before taking all of his official visits?
"I can't say that I won't but it is certainly not my plan. I plan on taking all five visits before making my decision."
After watching NC State defeat North Carolina in person on Saturday, Mattes headed back with the other recruits and the NC State players to watch some of the other games on Saturday afternoon and evening.
