The Big Three
Eight months ago, the future of Texas Tech's interior defensive line looked very bright. With Dan'tay Ward, Rajon Henley, and Richard Jones all turning in promising performances as true freshmen, it looked as though Tech would be in great shape for the next three years.
However, in addition to losing three seniors to graduation, the Red Raiders also lost Ward, who abruptly transferred after Tech's bowl game. This left Tech with only three scholarship defensive tackles on its roster, one of whom (Brian Jones) had proven little and was coming off a nagging arm injury. To make the sting a little more painful, it appeared as though Tech only had one DT commit (Colby Whitlock) for the 2007 class.
Luckily for Tech fans, news of Bobby Agoucha's commitment broke soon after Ward's departure, giving Tech two tackles for its '07 haul. The biggest surprise, however, may have come when signee David Neill showed up at spring practice weighing just a hair over 270-pounds. It soon became apparent that Neill would also receive snaps at DT, giving Tech three interior linemen in its class. While Tech had a small scare with Agoucha's academic status, all is now clear and all of the Big Three will be going through summer workouts in Lubbock.
