Bates ready to take his game to new heights
EAST LANSING - In just two years at Michigan State, junior Aaron Bates has established himself as one of the top punters in the Big Ten and the country.
As a freshman in 2007, Bates earned honorable mention Freshman All-American honors from Sporting News after averaging 39.7 yards per punt. Last season Bates improved his average to 42.0 per punt and earned second-team All-Big Ten honors and ranked No. 30 in the country in punting average.
What makes Bates' accomplishments even more impressive is the fact that the Ohioan learned how to punt by watching NFL punters on Sundays.
