Interesting ride brings three Aggies to Austin
AUSTIN, Texas - Texas A&M sent three freshmen to Austin this past week for the THSCA All-Star game, and Tuesday evening Spencer Nealy, Dustin Harris and Sean Porter helped lead the South All-Stars to a dominating 48-21 win. All three started for the South on defense - Nealy at defensive tackle, Porter at defensive end in a five-man front and Harris at cornerback - and showed the speed that A&M head coach Mike Sherman and defensive coordinator Joe Kines promised to bring to Aggieland.
It was something that all three knew they could showcase in Austin in front of Aggie fans everywhere, and that combined with the honor of playing in the 75-year old THSCA All-Star game brought the three new Aggies to Austin two years before they'll play on the same field against archrival Texas.
"At first I didn't really want to leave A&M, but this is still a really big honor. One of the kids' grandpa played in this and that was like 60 years ago. It's just a big game. Only the best of the best in Texas play," Nealy said. "Last year we had Eddie Brown, Trent Hunter and sorry if I forget any names but we had a lot of Aggies go and play in this game and now they're doing well up in College Station. Me, Dustin and Porter wanted to play in this game to let the people in College Station know exactly what's coming, represent A&M in a good manner and show our Aggie pride."
Over the week the Aggie trio was able to branch out and meet new friends that will play across the country from major BCS conference schools to FCS schools to junior colleges, but it started with a car ride from College Station that the three will remember for a while.
