Eggen preparing for Badger camp
Matt Eggen is currently one of the hottest names in the Midwest.
The 6-foot-5, 290-pound offensive lineman from La Crosse (Wis.) Logan seemingly receives a new scholarship on a weekly basis.
With offers currently on the table from Indiana, Minnesota, Buffalo, Illinois State, Marshall, Northern Illinois, Northern Iowa, Western Michigan, North Dakota and North Dakota State, Eggen is preparing for three summer camps that could very well determine his future.
Sunday, BadgerBlitz.com caught up with the three-star prospect to discuss his interest in the Badgers, as well as his plans heading into the summer.
"Well, Wisconsin would like to evaluate me during camp," Eggen said. "I'm going to the first one. I think it's the 14th, 15th and 16th. It's the three-day camp.
"I've always been a Badger fan. It's a great college. Growing up in Wisconsin you learn a lot about it, so it's kind of in your blood."
Although Wisconsin has yet to offer, Eggen is admittedly astute to what the program has to offer.
"I've been there for a couple games as well as their junior day," he said. "It's a nice campus; really nice facilities. The staff is top notch and really down to earth. That said, they are still strict and ready to go at all times."
When asked if any specific program has stood out to this point in his recruitment, Eggen acknowledged that two schools have caught his eye.
"A lot of them have
well, Minnesota, with that new stadium, it looks really nice, and Marshall is located in a great town," Eggen said. "They (Marshall) have a lot of tradition. It's really nice.
"I was in Marshall about a month ago for their spring game. It was a really nice place because it reminded me a lot of my hometown. It's a smaller town but there is still a lot of stuff to do. The campus is centralized which is nice because it's not all spread out.
"As far as Minnesota, I have some family members that live up there. Every once and awhile when I'm up there I just drive past the stadium to see how it's coming along and how it looks."
With Minnesota and Marshall possibly holding a slight edge, things could potentially change as soon as Eggen hits the summer camp circuit.
"Well, Michigan State and Iowa are the other two camps I will for sure be attending," he said. "Both of those programs are in the same boat as Wisconsin. They would like to evaluate me in camp and we'll go from there."
