Another Big Ten offer for Brust
A week ago, Ben Brust picked up an offer from the University of Iowa. This week another Big Ten school jumped on board and offered the talented 2010 guard prospect from the Chicago area.
"I went to Northwestern the other day with my parents and my AAU coach and met with Coach Carmody. I had gone there over the summer, so I was familiar with the facilities. We talked for a while and then they offered me a scholarship," Brust said.
The 6-foot-2 guard from Muldeline, IL has been on the Wildcats radar for a while and he likes the relationship he has built with their coaching staff.
"I really like Coach Hardy, one of the assistants at Northwestern. He is a real good guy and I talk to him a lot. I like a lot of the things that they do and how they have approached recruiting me," he said.
This past season, Brust averaged 29 points a game and nearly half the season due to a broken ankle sustained in January. But, that hasn't stopped college programs from recruiting him very hard.
In addition to the offer from Northwestern and Iowa, he has scholarship offers from Butler, Davidson, Bradley, and Southern Illinois. He is also getting quite a bit of interest from Virginia and Stanford in the past month.
Brust was scheduled to visit Iowa in the middle of May, but those plans have changed and he will be making the trip to Iowa City next week.
"We are leaving on Monday night and staying the night in Iowa City and then we will visit all day on Tuesday," he said.
Part of the reason for the change in plans is related to the fact that the University of Iowa will be holding graduation ceremonies at Carver-Hawkeye arena on the date of the original visit, but the larger reason is to get a better feel for the campus when students will be around.
"That was one of the main reasons and it was also graduation day at Iowa when I was initially schedule to go there. I can get a better feel for the campus and what is like with students around," Brust said. "I have heard a lot of good things about Iowa and Iowa City, so I am excited to see what it is like next week."
