Lawrence making spring moves
Mississippi State brought Cameron Lawrence in as an athlete in the 2009 signing class.
The December high school graduate has already played two positions this spring and could be making a move to a third soon.
The 6-foot-2, 210-pounder began spring practice at quarterback and made the move to wide receiver during week two due to injuries to the depleted receiving corps. But Lawrence could be on the move again with a transition to safety when those wideouts return.
"I don't know that he is going to end up being a receiver for us but he is building a lot of different skill sets right now," said MSU head coach Dan Mullen. "That's real important for him. Just the ability to block on special teams, just him learning that helps him be able to block on the perimeter as a receiver. It ads to his versatility and his diversity of how we can use him in the program. I think he will be playing another position by the time the spring is out. I think you will see him at another position before it is all said and done."
Lawrence admits that moving around this spring has been difficult but also understands that it will make him a more versatile player in the future.
"It's definitely been a challenge," Lawrence said. "But I've liked it because it kind of makes me more well rounded or as Coach Mullen says 'more tools in the box'. The adjustment was kind of hard going from quarterback to receiver but I already knew the basics so it wasn't too bad."
The former three-star recruit has a couple of preferences of where he would like to play but is being a team player and doing what is asked of him this spring.
