Perkins inks with Mississippi State
Greenville St. Joseph running back LaDarius Perkins committed to Auburn over the summer and remained solid with the Tigers throughout the 2008 season.
But when Auburn made a change in coaches, Perkins began looking around. In his search another school with a new head coach emerged in Mississippi State.
Perkins became a priority for the new Bulldog staff under Dan Mullen and decided to take his official visit there on Jan. 16.
It was on that trip to Starkville that Perkins switched his commitment to MSU pledging along with Dennis Thames and Chad Bumphis that weekend.
On Wednesday, Perkins completed the process by signing a national letter of intent to MSU.
The 5-foot-9, 180-pounder said the short drive from Greenville for his family along with his mother's relationship with Mullen helped seal the deal.
"My family was really happy that I am going to be staying closer to home, especially my mom," Perkins said. "It's more convenient for her too. She really liked Coach Mullen. He has really been talking to her a lot on his visits. I think she started liking him a whole lot."
