Manuel ready to compete for starting job
When he signed with Florida State last February, blue-chip quarterback E.J. Manuel hoped to make an immediate impact.
He wanted to play right away. He wanted to start as a true freshman. He wanted to help lead Florida State back to national prominence.
Though none of that happened, Manuel hasn't lost one bit of the confidence that helped make him one of the nation's top prospects. After spending the fall on FSU's scout team, while sophomore Christian Ponder racked up 12 regular-season starts, Manuel fully intends to offer some competition for the top job in 2009.
