This and That: Pitt
January 5, 2009 - Saturday, 19,397 fans poured into the Verizon Center anticipating a battle royal, a game many believed to be the Big East's early season best; Georgetown, then ranked 8th was hosting number three Pitt. Adding to the drama was G'Town's 77-63 on the road drubbing of UConn, at the time ranked second in the land, earlier in the week. Big East supremacy was more or less on the line.
For around 26 minutes the game lived up to it's billing, as Pitt took an 11-5 lead, only to see Georgetown pull to within three at 33-30 at intermission. Unfortunately for the Hoyas the tide changed in the second stanza; with the clock reading 14:12 and score knotted at 40, Pitt mounted a 26-7 run over about 11 minutes. The tilt ended a 70-54 Pitt Panther victory.
