Freshman corner ready for challenge
Already pretty banged up on defense, Auburn came out of the West Virginia game with even more issues, especially in the secondary.
Starting cornerback Jerraud Powers and key backup corner Neiko Thorpe both missed most of Sunday's practice as the Tigers turned to true freshman D'Antoine Hood to fill the starting position.
Hood has played in all eight games this season but mainly on special teams.
"(Hood) responded with an excellent practice," AU defensive coordinator Paul Rhoads said. "He's made a lot of improvement in about the last month. He's matured, he understands this level of game better, and his practice has reflected that."
Rhoads said he's confident Hood can answer the challenge if he's called on to start or play a bigger role as the fifth defensive back this Saturday at Ole Miss. Rhoads said Hood's biggest improvement has been adjusting to the speed of playing at this level.
