RB White makes the commitment call
On Sunday evening, Dallas (Tex.) Skyline running back James White told CycloneReport.com that he was thinking about calling the Iowa State coaching staff with his decision to commit after spending the weekend in Ames on an official visit. He did indeed make that call, but it wasn't until Monday that he was able to actually become an Iowa State verbal commitment.
White, a three-star prospect ranked as the no. 37 all-purpose back in the nation, talked to Iowa State recruiting coordinator Scott Fountain on Monday and said his commitment was accepted on the spot. Head coach Gene Chizik was busy with his weekly radio show so White didn't talk to him, but that conversation is soon to come.
"I'm going to talk to Coach Chizik [Tuesday]," White said. "He was busy tonight, had a meeting or something. I called him last night to commit but I just had to leave a voice mail. My recruiting coach (Jay Boulware) and I talked earlier today and then Coach Fountain and I talked a few minutes ago tonight. So that's when I really committed."
White said there were numerous positives about his official visit to Iowa State, but topping the list was fan support.
"I really like the fans there," White said. "Everything was good, I liked it, I really enjoyed myself. But the fans stood out, they are really behind the program. It's all about Iowa State there. They were wild the whole game. Iowa State had [Kansas] in the bag and then let it go. They are very close. I want to be part of that."
White also received scholarship offers from Colorado, Minnesota and Utah.
