Florida QB holds multiple offers
North Miami Beach (Fla.) High School is off to a great start to the 2008 season, opening up 2-1 with its only loss to south Florida power Killian. This weekend, the Chargers face a stiff national test in River Ridge (La.) John Curtis. If North Miami Beach is to topple the national power of John Curtis, it will need a big performance from its start quarterback Nico Flores.
"We practiced hard today," Flores said on Wednesday. "We're very excited. It's a great opportunity. They're a very disciplined team. They come out and play hard and I'm guessing they're playing us at noon where it's hot so that they think they can wear us down. But we're from Miami and it's always hot down here so we'll be ready."
Flores has tremendous athleticism from the quarterback position that should make him a tough player to defend. But Flores is confident and effective in his ability to throw as well.
"The run opens up the pass so that's how we live off of it," he said. "If you don't run the ball effectively than you just gotta open up the passing game."
Flores' versatility has attracted several colleges to North Miami Beach and he currently holds offers from UCF, FIU, South Florida and Mississippi State.
"I talk to some coaches on the phone," he said. "Coaches call me all the time, Colorado State, FIU keeps in good contact, Central Florida, Mississippi State, Boston College. I'm planning on going on some visits but I don't know when yet, probably after the season."
Flores does hope to take all of his official visits but he has yet to narrow down his list of schools to decide where he wants to trip. Currently, he has plenty to think about with the impending game against John Curtis. But John Curtis should be thinking a lot about Flores too.
"On offense, basically I'm that all-around quarterback. I can run. I can throw. I'm a good downfield thrower and I love to read defenses and pick them apart."
