Allen duo impresses against Plano West
Unlike their larger brethren such as Plano to the south and McKinney to east, the city of Allen has remained a one-school town over the years. It has enabled them to maintain one of the largest enrollments in the state and also to be a perennial playoff contender.
The Eagles played No. 1 nationally-ranked Euless Trinity very tough in a 24-14 loss two weeks ago and this past weekend opened up district play with a 37-14 shellacking of Plano West. In the latter, the Eagles took a 30-7 halftime lead and coasted the rest of the way.
The huge enrollment numbers have also provided Allen with a pool of talent that provides colleges with multiple Division I prospects every year. This year is no exception as the Eagles boast two Texas A&M commits in wide receiver Uzoma Nwachukwu and safety Steven Terrell.
Nwachukwu is currently the more interesting story of the two. The 6-foot, 186-pound senior started at outside receiver last season and caught 22 passes for 335 yards and six touchdowns despite playing on the same team with Texas signee Dan Buckner. He should exceed last year's totals as he already has 16 catches for 182 yards and two touchdowns in five games.
However, Nwachukwu is currently playing with a high ankle sprain with has limited him to just three catches total in Allen's last two games. Originally, he wasn't even supposed to play against Trinity but gutted it out to catch two passes, one which required him to jump high in the air and come down directly on his injured ankle.
