Nation's No. 4 wide receiver loves Sooner Visit
The visit of Gastonia (N.C.) Ashbrook four-star wide receiver Jheranie Boyd came as a surprise to everyone around Norman. Apparently the 6-foot-2, 184-pound speedster was just as surprised by Oklahoma's interest in him earlier this week. The Sooners kept the theme of unexpected events going when Boyd hit campus.
"I really liked the campus, everything is right there close together, even the dorms and academics are right there by the stadium," Boyd said. "Everything went great, it was such a good visit."
There has been much speculation just how the Sooners and Boyd, who had no contact up until this week, came to start the recruiting dance. It seems that the Sooners placed a call to Boyd's head coach and things started from there.
"I wasn't in touch with Oklahoma a tall, it just kind of popped up out of the blue. My coach called me out of class one day and said 'the No. 2 team in the nation wants to talk to you'," he recalled. "I got excited, I had never said anything about them from the start but they are a great program and I'd always like to have heard from them.
"I called Oklahoma and they wanted to know if I was interested and I told them I was. I mean they are one of the best teams in the country and have one of the best quarterbacks in the nation who is just a sophomore, so yeah I'm interested!"
