Green breaking through
When Broderick Green came to the University of Southern California in 2007, he was touted as the next great big back for the Trojans. He was immediately compared to former great, LenDale White, and many believed he would come in and contribute immediately. Combine a depth chart the likes of which no one had ever seen before with an untimely injury, and the Arkansas native found himself sitting on the bench for the first time in his career.
But spring practice is made for guys like Green to show what they can do, and after a couple days without pads on, his bruising running style was finally allowed to blossom over the weekend.
"It felt pretty good (to get into the endzone)," he said about scoring on Friday. "But I hate that it was at the end. I wish I could have been doing it the hole practice.
"I got beat mentally a couple times, but I'll work on the stuff and I think I'll be alright."
Fortunately for Green there are still 11 more practices left this spring to show what he can do.
"(The remaining practices) are a chance for me to come out to compete and get better, as well as have some fun and get ready for the season," he said. "It's my chance to come back from my injury, to prove to the team what I can do for them."
