Dawkins talks S.C. talent, FSU future
ROEBUCK, S.C. - Everett Dawkins, fresh off a state championship at Duncan (S.C.) Byrnes, has been challenged and impressed going against and playing with two of the stronger units in the Shrine Bowl of the Carolinas - the lines of the Palmetto State squad.
"On the offensive line, T.J. Johnson from Aynor is looking really good. And Dalton Freeman is, too. Those are two guys that really stand out to me. On the d-line, Daquan Bowers, Donte Rumph is really stepping up at nose guard and Jordan Gary at d-end, so everyone is really stepping up."
The 6-foot-1, 250-pound defensive lineman is rock solid to Florida State.
"I think some people came in November but after I committed I stopped answering the phone calls," he shared. "Really it's just been Florida State."
The Rivals250 member details his thoughts on his future role for the Noles.
"Florida State does a lot of rotation at the defensive end spot," Dawkins said. "A lot of people say they already have one great defensive end committed who is out of JUCO. I try to tell them that they rotate them a lot."
What's the message the Palmetto State product is receiving from the FSU staff regarding his future role?
"As far as weight, I'm going try and gain about 20 pounds as long as I keep my speed and everything," the nation's No. 11 weakside defensive end explained. "I'm 100 percent to the Seminoles. That's the only visit I'll take. I met the guys already committed there. Everybody seems cool. They used to be a powerhouse but the past couple of years they've been down. Me and other guys want to help try and bring it back.
Dawkins has 140 tackles with 11 sacks, 27 tackles for loss and 47 quarterback hurries.
