Hawkeyes offer in-state QB
It has been quite a week for Keokuk native James Vandenberg. After receiving his first major offer from Nebraska on Wednesday, the record setting quarterback threw for 219 yards and three touchdowns yesterday as his team won the state championship in Class 3A. Then today, the 6-foot-2, 178-pound Vandenberg added an offer from the Iowa Hawkeyes.
Vandenberg, who led Keokuk to a 12-1 record this year, finished with 3,729 yards passing and 49 touchdowns, which are both single season records in the state of Iowa. The quarterback also set the all-time career records in each category finishing with 7,701 yards and 93 touchdown passes. Still, after picking up an early offer from Northern Illinois, Vandenberg waited patiently for the major programs to come calling.
