Studdard puts things in perspective
With leadership being one of the things that seemed to be lacking before and during the beginning of the season, the fact that this 2007 Longhorn team has the resolve to come back when down shows that it is maturing.
You are starting to see some of the characteristics of success that made the 2004 and 2005 Longhorns teams special.
I have said over and over again that when you have a leader as special as Vince Young, if you are not prepared for him to leave, he can leave a chasm the size of Texas in your program. Guys like that can cast a large shadow.
We would all be remiss to not acknowledge the special group of young men that signed with The University of Texas in that class of 2002 that now has no less than 10 players on NFL rosters and was the core of the 2005 National Championship team.
I got a chance to talk with one guy in that class that now plays for the Houston Texans who was in town for the Longhorns' battle with Texas Tech this past weekend.
Of course I'm talking about my conversation with Kasey Studdard. He spoke to members of the team before the game with Texas Tech and talked to them about the fact that he lost his game on senior day last year to Texas A&M.
