A look at the basketball newcomers
Last year, Ben Hansbrough was a wide-eyed freshman looking to find a role within the Mississippi State basketball team. Now, Hansbrough is one of the 'veterans' on a talent-laden Bulldog team that welcomes in yet another highly regarded recruiting class. Following one week of practice and months spent working together in the off-season strength and conditioning program, Hansbrough had nothing but praise for his newest teammates.
Kodi Augustus (6-foot-8, 220) arrived on the MSU campus after averaging 18.9 points, seven rebounds and three blocks per game at Maine Central Institute, causing him to be ranked as the nation's No. 20 post-graduate player by some recruiting services.
A scoring threat inside as well as behind the three-point line, Hansbrough said Augustus' shooting touch was the first thing that stood out in practices.
"I think Kodi is really, really talented," said Hansbrough. "He's a big man that can absolutely stroke the ball."
