Past means little in rivalry game
Fresh on the minds of the Kent State football team is last year's 37-15 victory over Akron that brought the Wagon Wheel-the trophy presented to the winning team of this annual game-back to Kent. The memory of that game-including the post game celebration with the Wagon Wheel-is hard to forget, especially with the huge graphic recently added to the exterior of Dix Stadium. That photo depicts several players, along with Kent State president Lester Lofton, hoisting the trophy in the air after that dominating victory.
But don't think for a moment that memory will have the Golden Flashes overconfident on Saturday at the Rubber Bowl when Kent State and Akron will put the Wagon Wheel up for grabs for the 50th time.
