West Virginia rolls Terps
There was a lot of talk about no quit in the Terrapins from the Maryland players after Thursday night's 31-14 loss to 4th-ranked West Virginia.
And while there's some truth to that effort, fortunately someone has pulled the plug on the rivalry with the Mountaineers for at least the next two years. That will give Mssrs. Slaton and White, both juniors, time to clear out, but the bad news is that current freshman Noel Devine will still be around when the border rivals renew hostilities in 2010.
The fifth-largest Byrd Stadium crowd ever, 53,107 fans, watched as the Mountaineers (3-0) rolled up 448 yards total offense, 353 of it on the ground. While the game didn't turn into the immediate debacle last year's 45-24 humiliation was, ultimately Maryland again came unglued, only this time in the third quarter.
