Martin and teammates face tough schedule
After suffering two losses to Wolfforth Frenship last year, including a season-ending defeat in the playoffs, it meant a lot to Wichita Falls Rider and safety Markelle Martin that they were opening the 2007 season with the no. 5 state-ranked team in Class 4A.
The motivation helped Rider to a 31-7 win over Frenship but may have also resulted in a letdown versus Midland Lee this past weekend.
In retrospect, despite the emotional build up to the Frenship game, the comeback win over Lee may better serve Rider in the long haul.
Martin is playing both ways for Rider although he spent most of his time this past weekend on the defensive side of the ball. In week one, he caught three passes for 71 yards and followed that up with 15 tackles, including four for losses, versus Lee.
