Mangino, players talk about QB decision
After months of speculation and debate among fans, Mark Mangino finally spoke with the media Saturday afternoon and named his starting quarterback.
"We are going with Todd Reesing," Mangino said. "We have known for several days that this is how it was going to play out. He came here ready to go, he has a very good command of the offense. He is throwing the ball very well, we just wanted to wait until two weeks out before we made a public comment on it."
Reesing, who found out Saturday morning after he was called into Ed Warinner's office, feels comfortable leading this offense, especially since this season it is more designed like the offense Reesing ran in high school at Lake Travis.
"This offense allows me to use the skills that I have," Reesing said. "We can do things like rolling out and setting up the big play downfield. There is a lot more creativity in the offense, we can utilize the whole field and create space so we can give the ball to our playmakers."
Mangino believes Reesing can be one of those playmakers and separated himself by retaining much of what he learned in the spring, wasting no time at all in fall practice to get in a groove.
