Summer Tip-Off showcases top Texas talent
The final day of the Great American Shootout Summer Tip-Off AAU tournaments had shaped up to for observers to witness some of the best of Texas in the class of 2009 go head-to-head for the championship. All teams like Texas Select, Dallas Mustangs and Houston Elite had to do was win their quarterfinal games.
Texas Blue Chips had other plans.
Matched up with Houston Elite in the early morning quarterfinal the Blue Chips seemed like an afterthought to most in attendance. Elite was without Houston Strake Jesuit class of 2009 point guard Stevie Rogers who went down with a kne injury Saturday, and Blue Chips took advantage by denying observers an Elite-Mustangs semifinal.
In that semifinal the Mustangs quickly burst out to a 19-point lead, but the Blue Chips went into a 2-3 zone and crawled back on the heels of North Crowley senior Tyler Jefferson, Duncanville junior Kevin Butler and Duncanville junior point guard Brian Talley to be down 41-40 at the half.
The Blue Chips started the second half where they left off in the first half by quickly gaining the lead and never looking back.
