Okoroha's stock rises with solid showing
When a recruit steps out onto the field for an event such as the Nike Training Combines that took place this past weekend at Penn State and Rutgers, it can often be an overwhelming experience. After all, the sea of college coaches, recruiters, trainers and scouts congesting the field can make even the most focused football players nervous.
Judging by the performance of Greenbelt (Md.) Eleanor Roosevelt safety Okechuckwu Okoroha at Saturday's camp, it would be hard to think he entered without the strongest concentration.
The 6-foot, 180-pound defensive back had driven to Penn State with scholarship offers in hand from Boston College, Penn State, Virginia and UConn, among others. When he returned home this week, he picked up a scholarship offer from Illinois and called current player Travon Bellamy, who played at Eleanor Roosevelt, to find out about the program and about coach Ron Zook.
