Spring review: Defensive line
PowerMizzou.com has broken down the Tiger offense by position. Now, we get to the heart of the matter. The defense has far more questions, and might hold the key to the 2007 season for Mizzou. Today, we start breaking down the defense with a look at the defensive line.
The Starters: Of the tackles, there is absolutely no doubt. Lorenzo Williams and Evander Hood are going to start inside and there is virtually nothing that can change that. On the outside, there are many, many more questions. Those around the program were very happy with the spring turned in by Tommy Chavis. Chavis seems to have cemented himself as a solid replacement for Xzavie Jackson. On the other side, Stryker Sulak held off the spring challengers for a starting job. But he may have a battle on his hands again this fall.
Fall Camp Prediction: The first four are nearly set. It would be surprising to see anyone but Williams, Hood, Chavis and Sulak start against Illinois. Nothing is impossible, but these four seem entrenched. Gaines and Baston will back up inside. Coslet has simply shown too much in practice not to get on the field. Without the situation that caused him to leave the team for a period during spring, Stull would be a very, very strong candidate for a backup job. As it is, we see it as a battle between Corby and Corbett with the junior college transfer winning out.
Coming tomorrow: Linebackers
