Kingsport's Phillips Getting Noticed
East Tennessee hasn't exactly been known as the cradle of college quarterbacks or anything, but the last few years suggest that perception isn't exactly accurate. Kingsport's [db]Curt Phillips[/db] is the latest area quarterback to identify himself as a Division I prospect, with offers and interest alike starting to pile up this spring.
The Vols signed Chattanooga's [db]B.J. Coleman[/db] in last year's class, and Phillips is already generating more early buzz than Coleman did at this same stage last year.
Phillips (6-foot-3, 210 pounds, 4.65 40-yard dash) from Sullivan South high school, was among the numerous participants in Saturday's NIKE Camp in Athens, Ga., and he had a chance to show why many college coaches are starting to look at him as a serious target.
